Paul Giannone is currently the Deputy Director, Global Disease Detection and Emergency Response in the Center for Global Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia.

Paul Giannone is a 30 year career emergency responder, planner and public health administrator. Paul received an undergraduate Bachelor of Science (cum laude) degree in Community Health Services from the State University of New York at Brockport in 1974 and a Masters Degree in Public Health with a concentration in Population and Family Planning from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1976.

Paul initiated his career as a two tour (1969 – 1971) Public Health Advisor with the 29th Civil Affairs Company in the Republic of Vietnam (Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, and the South Vietnamese Public Health Medal). Paul’s career has spanned the globe in his work in public health and emergency response: Schistosomiasis research in Iran; refugee relief operations in Singapore, Sudan, Albania, and Pakistan; AIDS/HIV intervention research in Thailand and the Philippines; Family planning research and institutional capacity building in Egypt, Kenya, Sudan, Turkey and Pakistan; disaster response in the US (California, Florida, New York, Oklahoma, Alabama) and in Kenya. Paul has trained people in disaster response and disaster planning throughout the United States, Africa, Asia, the Pacific and the Middle East. He has appeared as an expert commentator on CNN and Fox Network, numerous newspapers and was featured in an April 2002 article of Biography Magazine.
